Google has committed to investing $1.5 billion over the years 2026 and 2027 to enhance its data center in Jackson County, Alabama. This facility, which has been operational since 2019 on the site of a former coal plant, is a key component in delivering vital digital services and fostering sustainable regional development.
The expansion will include Google covering 100% of its power and infrastructure expenses. Additionally, Google has introduced a $2 million Energy Impact Fund in collaboration with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and CAANEAL, aimed at advancing local energy efficiency and weatherization initiatives.
In a move to further support the community, Google is donating $550,000 for STEM kits, which will benefit students in grades four through eight. These efforts reinforce Google’s longstanding commitment to the area, which includes initiatives such as promoting water stewardship in the Paint Rock River Watershed, training over 130,000 residents of Alabama in digital skills, and creating numerous full-time and construction employment opportunities.
