Meta is donating 15,000 pairs of Ray-Ban Meta glasses to Vision Ireland, the country’s national charity for sight loss. This donation is intended to provide every adult with blindness or visual impairment supported by the charity access to this transformative technology.
Developed in collaboration with Europe’s EssilorLuxottica, Ray-Ban Meta glasses are rapidly becoming popular among consumers. They offer useful features such as music listening, live translation, and hands-free calls, which are particularly beneficial for those with visual impairments.
This initiative by Meta aims to equip blind and low vision individuals in Ireland with AI technology that aids in daily activities like reading text, identifying objects, and gathering information about their surroundings.
Receiving the Glasses
Eligible individuals can express their interest by registering online at meta.vi.ie or calling +353 1 882 1910. Vision Ireland will oversee a phased rollout process, which includes application, assessment, and selection, followed by in-person training and support.
Training and Support
Alongside the glasses, Meta will fund training sessions to assist users in effectively utilizing the devices. These sessions will teach users to identify objects, read text, and manage tasks using voice commands, thereby enhancing their independence.
Vision Ireland will organize events nationwide for participants to receive their glasses, receive practical guidance from trained staff, and engage with other program participants. Additionally, a helpdesk will be available to assist with any follow-up questions post-training.

The Clonee Data Center in Meath also forms part of Meta’s global infrastructure supporting its technologies and services.
